One small step...

Ok,

It's been a few months since my last post, but I've been busy with photography and chores around the house.  However the other day when it was raining I got around to digging out all of my train and modeling magazines that I've been holding onto for the 30+ years.  Probably close to 500 of them. Once I kept the few that I wanted (20 or so) the rest went to the recycle container.

I know this doesn't have much to pertain the layout or modeling, but it's something I've been wanting to do for a few years and figured it was a good place to start.

Once I get that area cleaned up, I will be rearranging a few more things so I have a little more room.  Then I'll start clearing off the layout and trying to get things running again.

I think the first project is to finish the two locos I started to prep for painting just before the remodel began.  After that, I may try to tackle revamping the staging yard.  Plan to strip all the track off and start over with a much smaller yard.

In the meantime here are some pics for proof that I actually got something accomplished.

I really do want to be running trains again...

  1. Good to get this sorted. I used to cut out a page I wanted and put them in a folder for reference and give the magazines to the club. Looks like shelf overload in the background.
Good to see you back at it.

    1. A friend started that and it worked good. I had all the intentions of doing it but never did. Yup I have another shelf back behind the furnas that needs to be cleaned out yet, but it has nothing to do with trains, more personal junk that needs to go.

  2. Good clean up Allen. My wife had a plastic shelf like that loaded with cook books and it ended up buckling under the weight and got tossed when we had to move everything out to paint the room. Her and I have both been thinning our magazines since.

    1. Yup, both of these are starting to buckle as well, another reason I'm clearing them off.

  3. Are we, your loyal followers, to be fooled by your photographs? You even said that you have been "working" on photography and neglecting your RR! What I see in the first photo is a set of shelves peeking out from behind some duct work with the top two shelves appearing empty. The second photo shows shelves in the foreground cleared but those in the background are now loaded! Third and fourth photos show "decoy" trash bags probably filled with wadded up news paper. Fifth image shows magazine bins that we are supposed to believe have been emptied but in reality I suspect these were purchased at a garage sale and will be used to provide a resting place for future magazine/publication acquisitions. Nice camera work! Great to see you getting back to trains! Looking forward to a group meet for operations on the Little Rock! Mike can watch.
