A New Kitchen part 17

Another big push Friday night and Saturday Morning!
Friday night we removed all the cabinets that I had added to the old existing cabs years ago.  The Microwave cabinet above the stove and two uppers on the opposite wall.

Then we moved the ugly green stove out to the trailer and rolled the refrig to the dining room for the duration.

Saturday morning the rest came out.
First the plumbing, then the countertop and sink then the base cabinets and finally the upper!

Going...

Going...

Gone!!!

Buh...By!!

Next stop, the landfill!

The original cabinets came out real easy due to the way they were built.  The cabinets were built from 1" x 12" Yellow Pine lumber.  The base had two boards laying front to back, the upper was made from just one.  All the shelves were nailed in place while the cabinets were being built in place on the job site in 1952. Not one drop of glue was used, everything was nailed together using 8d [8 penny] finish nails!

Next step will be to start cleaning, then the electrical, plumbing.  So this will probably be the last post until I get the cabinets installed or when I'm completely done...

New buildings?

Started to clean out the old cabinets over the weekend and had to store some of the contents around the house.  I found a few spots.........and then wondered if this could be counted as new scenery?

A New Kitchen part 16

Last weekend seen good progress on the cabinets.
By the end of Sunday night we had all the doors and drawers installed in the boxes and the decorative hardware on!  Monday noon we moved them from the shop to the garage where they'll sit until the kitchen is ready for them.  I still need to make the breadboard and countertops.  The laminate is on order and should be here next week Tuesday.  Once I get them covered I'll add them to the pile.

Tonight Lisa and I started clearing out the cabinets of the unneeded items in preparations for tearing out the old cabinets, hopefully this weekend?

Here are the original plans I first posted along with the finished cabinets.

The refrigerator wall cabinets.

The over refrigerator cabinet has a roll-out and a shelf, the roll-out will make it easy to get at stuff in this cabinet.

The split pantry cabinets.

The sink base and sink upper.

The microwave cabinet.

There will be a few things that I will modify once they are installed like the cutting the top stringers on the sink base so the sink will fit.  Other than that, they are finished and ready to install...

A New Kitchen part 15

I made some great progress over the long holiday weekend.
I got the cabinet boxes built, sanded and stained.

This is the sink upper and the last box that got stained.

Here's all eight boxes, stacked and drying.

Tuesday morning I got them sprayed with the sealer and that night Lisa and went back over after work to get the sealer sanded.  Once done, we sprayed the final coat of Pre-catalyzed lacquer on them and went home and was in bed before 9:00.

But first we had to get some munchies cause I think our masks leaked?

The hardware is due in Friday morning and if things work out, I plan to hang all the doors and install the drawers this weekend.   After that I'll bring them home and stash them in the garage until I get the kitchen get gutted.

I am sooooooooo close now......
